What Are Chakras

Chakras aren’t very common knowledge to most people. I know every time I talk about them, people never have a clue what I’m saying lol. Just like yoga and meditation, the chakras first came to us from India. They teach that the chakras are these energy vortexes in our bodies that align down our spine. Each chakra relates to a different part of your body and mind. The energy that theses vortexes suck in can either block your chakra or heal it, depending on the energy your have allowed near you.

A chakra that I know I have blocked is my throat chakra. Don’t worry I’ll explain the main chakras in more detail below. Anyways, I know my throat chakra is blocked because I can physically feel a heaviness in my throat area and I feel like I haven’t been able to express myself in years. When your throat chakra is unblocked you are able to express your truth and creativity freely. One way that I’m doing to unblock this chakra is by speaking my truth more and more through videos and blog posts. Since the throat chakra has to do with your voice, I always find singing in the shower helps too lol.

Here are the 7 main chakras:

  1. Root Chakra

The root chakra has to do with feeling grounded. It means you feel safe and secure in the home you are in and the body you are in. This is the base chakra that you must have fully healed in order to be able to fully express yourself in the rest of the chakras.

  1. Sacral Chakra

This chakra has to do with connecting with others and being secure enough to try new experiences. It is located right below your navel. You’ll feel more comfortable in social situations and be ready to say yes to more adventures!

  1. Solar Plexus Chakra

This is the third chakra and it has to do will feeling confident. If this chakra is balanced you will feel confident in yourself and your abilities. Your self-esteem will be at a all time high and you’ll be able to accomplish anything you set your mind to.

  1. Heart Chakra

When the heart chakra is balanced, you will be able to love fully. Not only love yourself, but have healthy loving relationships with others as well. This chakra is located, yes you guessed it, at your heart center.

  1. Throat Chakra

This chakra I mentioned above, it has to do with you being able to communicate freely. You will be more aligned with your truth and be able to share that with others.

  1. Third Eye Chakra

This is the sixth chakra and has to do with your ability to tap into your intuition. It is located at your third eye which is a little bit above the in between of your eyes. Being aligned with your intuition is important because you will be able to receive the guidance to live your best life possible for you.

  1. Crown Chakra

This chakra is located at the top of your head, hence named the crown chakra. When unblocked you will be connected to your higher self and more spiritual then ever. Apparently you will experience pure bliss and who doesn’t want that?

Honestly, I’ve been kind of embarrassed to admit how spiritual I’ve become. I blame this on my throat chakra being blocked lol. But seriously, I felt like I couldn’t share my new love for chakras because people wouldn’t understand or they would think I was weird. Talking about it more though has helped me get over this. I don’t care if people think I’m weird because I’m into things like chakras, chanting mantras and kundalini yoga. These are all just things I love that make me unique. And I’m so happy I’m finally able to share these interests without feeling bad about it.

Anyways, leave me a comment below and let me know your thoughts about the chakras? I’d love to know if there are more people out there that are interested in things like me!

Love you,

5 Healthy Habits You Should Start Now

To keep yourself performing at the best you possible there are some habits you need to start incorporating into your day. I find the 30 day challenge applies here. When you are trying to develop a new habit it’s best to make yourself do it everyday for 30 days straight to make it second nature to you. Why should you do this? Going after your dream life is a challenge in itself, but if you aren’t taking care of yourself in the process it’s going to become even more challenging. Taking care of your body and mind should always be you number 1 priority and here are some habits that can help you with that:

  1. Eat Fruit Everyday

Eating anything with live cells in it gives you instant energy. Eating raw fruits or vegetables is packed with vitamins your body needs to be performing at it’s best. It’s the New Year, so my goal is to get back to eating one apple a day and more salad. I have been indulging in a lot of sweets over the holidays, so now it’s time to retrain my mind to reach for an apple anytime I crave something sweet.

  1. Meditate Daily

Meditation is amazing. Like I’ve mentioned before, it just clears your mind of any overthinking or negative thoughts and allows you to focus on what’s really important. I like meditating as part of my morning routine. To learn more about my morning routine click here.

  1. Exercise 3-5 Times a Week

Find the type of exercise that works best for you and just do it! I know it’s hard and some days you just don’t want to do, but do it! Your body and mind will thank you! Not only will exercise help tone your body, but it will also help clear your mind and make you feel great! The types of exercise I love most are Kundalini yoga, running & taking my dog for a walk. What kind of exercise are you going to start/continue this year? Comment below!

  1. Drink Lots of Water Everyday

I can’t stress this enough! Drink water! There are so many benefits to drinking water, such as flushing out toxins from your body, weight loss, improved clarity, more energy, and more! I always keep a bottle of water near me and have basically replaced every drink that I used to drink with water.

  1. Make Your Bed Every Morning

This one may seem obvious, but so many people forget to do it. Whether it’s because you’re busy or just lazy, this crucial task of the day gets ignored. Making your bed is important because it’s one of those things that when you do it, you feel like you have accomplished something at the very start of your day. Which just sets you off to continue accomplishing things through out the day. Also, if you had like a really crappy day, there’s nothing better than coming home to a bed that’s already made and waiting for you.

Check out my video on healthy habits here:

So, there’s my top 5 habits that I think everyone should start incorporating into their day! Having habits like these will help put you into the success mindset that us Mermess’ need to develop.

My Number One Weight Loss Secret

So, lately I have been eating a lot of desserts and drinking a lot of wine lol. Hey, I’m going through a break up, what do you expect? Chocolate is so satisfying right now. I like crave it every night. Chocolate cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chocolate, chocolate infused wine… Yes, there is a chocolate infused wine and yes, it’s as delicious as you’d expect it to be.  And if it isn’t something chocolate, it’s cheesecake or those delicious little pumpkin tarts… You get the picture. What I’m trying to say is that I have been indulging lately. A lot. And unfortunately, it was beginning to catch up with me. There are two places that I can always immediately notice a change. That is under my chin/neck area and my tummy.

I noticed my tummy starting to look a bit bloated, which sent me into a panic mode. Which caused me to eat more. You know how it goes. Then I realized that while I was gorging myself on desserts and wine, I forgot one very important thing:

This is where I was slacking. I went from typically drinking well over a litre of water a day to barely taking a couple of sips. I had unintentionally replaced water with wine. Well it wasn’t just wine. I had also begun drinking soda again which in my opinion is worse than wine. I feel like every drink you have with your meal should be water and I had basically stopped doing that. So, I decided to make a change. I would still drink my wine of course and I will also continue to eat as many desserts as I please, but now I will add in more water. I will always have a bottle of water with me wherever I am. This is how I used to do it and this is how I will do it again.

So, I have been doing this for about a week now and this morning I really noticed the difference! My tummy is becoming flatter again and I’m so happy about it! So happy that I just had to share this little secret lol. Water. That was the answer all along. And not only has my tummy gotten flatter, but my mood has improved, and my energy levels are way up. It’s amazing what just drinking water can do for you.

Now I’ve changed my routine to make drinking water my biggest focus. The first thing I do before I even get out of bed is I drink an entire bottle of water. I have a gold swell one that makes it so simple to refill or I just grab a regular bottle of water. Once I finish the entire bottle, only then do I get out of bed. I find this really helps to get rid of that morning grogginess and those stiff joints too. Mind you, I am going to the bathroom way more… but, I think that’s just all part of the detox process anyway. And we all know detoxing is a great way to lose weight. So, why not do a water detox? It’s free and the results are undeniable!

If you are looking for any of the results I have mentioned, then I suggest you start drinking more water. Like right now. Grab a glass, go to your tap, fill it up and guzzle that shiz down. I promise you, it will make you feel amazing! There is no downside. Like Nike’s slogan: Just Do It!
